Post 12

The IOS event was very interesting and informative. I love learning about other countries and their cultures. I learned a lot about the lifestyle of people from both India and Tokyo. One thing that was interesting was learning about the different foods and desserts Indian people eat. The reason why I think it was more intriguing to me was because my Godsister is getting married to an Indian man. It was good to learn about certain things about their culture before the two cultures join together. One thing I am excited about the two cultures joining together is that I love trying different type of foods and Indian food is one I am looking forward to try. From the presentation I learned that most of the foods are spicy and that is one of my favorites.

Learning about Tokyo was really interesting too. The facts were more interesting, even though the presentation was not as interesting or entertaining as the other presentation. It was fascinating to learn that the technology in Tokyo is so advanced. The technology they have, makes me feel that they are from outer space. One thing that I wished that our country would have is the trains. In the slide show it was mentioned that it would only take two hours from Rochester to New York City. If we had that type of technology here, we would be better off and happer.

This presentation was really enjoyable. It was nice to be in a class that we learned different things than the subjects we take. Also, this past two weeks have been full of exams and essays and it was nice to do a different kind of activity that would distract us from other things going on.

Prompt 10

What did you do at the party on Thursday? Who did you meet? Was this a good use of class time or not?
I really did enjoy the party last week. It was nice to interact with students from a different year. I already knew several of the upper class men like Henry and Tao. But I did try to meet new people. I am bad with remembering names, but I did play Taboo with international students from china. They were in my team in the game. I was not shy around them, but it seemed that they were of me. Sometimes it was hard to talk to them because they did not really want to speak to me, so they stayed with each other. Then I really enjoyed the ECO reunion and our game of taboo.
I enjoyed experiencing this break from classes. I believe it was a good use of class time. If we are viewing as an educational point of view, I can say that it helped me with my social skills. I am usually not the type to go to a person that I do not know and join a group with them. Over all it was a nice experience and break. Thank you, Liz:)

Prompt # 8

This weekend I do not plan to do anything special. Today, I went to see our school's football team play for homecoming. It was the first time I have ever been to a football game, so most of the time I was lost. The good thing is that we won. Another thing I did today was perform for Rochester Revenue. I am happy because I was for this performance, I was ten times more confident. Because I was secure about myself, I actually enjoyed performing. Thankfully, I did not mess up like I did last performance at Tropicana. Tomorrow will be a relax day for me. During this whole week, I tried planning my work out perfectly so that most of my homework will be done by Friday. This is my last homework assignment for this week:) The only thing I will have to do tomorrow is go to salseros. I have to go tomorrow because we have to start practicing for our next performances that are on Friday and Saturday. I do not mind because I love my Salseros family.
The only thing negative about my weekend is that, seeing parents all over campus makes me miss my parents. For next Meliora weekend, I am going to be sure to invite my parents.

I have two online spaces that I share my ideas on. Those two websites are Facebook and my social wrong’s blog. The one I mostly share my culture is on Facebook. Facebook gives me the opportunity to comment or like on other people’s ideas. Not everything posted on Facebook is something to have an opinion on but there are things one can write his or her opinions about. For instance, a recent topic that was on Facebook was the execution of Troy Davis. Many statuses were on the injustice done to Davis by the government. Such statuses give me the opportunity to comment on what the government should have done and what they shouldn’t. By expressing what I think, I am addressing my values and beliefs. For instance, I did comment on Davis’ execution as being unjust. The government and the Supreme Court are meant to bring justice to the country and this action makes everyone doubt the role of the courts.

Facebook has no limitation in what you can post, so it is easy for people to converse about anything in multiple ways. Recently I have discovered that people even post pictures of News images and tag people on it. I was tagged in a picture of a soldier that has his face deformed, result of the war. It is to show the reasons why soldiers should be pulled out of Iraq. Soldiers are risking their lives because of the government’s stupidity. I did not remove the tag because it is something I also believe in. Many people commented on the picture and I read most of them. When I agreed with what another person said, I would like or comment back to that person on what they posted. As you can see, it is very easy to have a conversation.

Prompt Four Response

I go online about 6 times a day. Every time I go online is to do three things; go on Facebook, go on Peoplemagazine.com and listen music on YouTube. It has been a habit for the past 3 years. Those three websites are what connects me to the world beyond my surrounds. It also helps me stay updated with the media, of the people I know and of fashion.

Facebook I use mostly use to stay in touch with my friends from Ecuador and from back home. When I get on Facebook, the first thing I do it look up recent photos. I find it very interesting to see photos of what people have been up to rather than actually reading their status. I do not only use Facebook to find out things about people I am close to, but as well as of people I just met. When I met a person and they send me a friend request, I use Facebook to help me build an image of that person. It is a good way to find out some background information. People like to call this “stalkerish,” but I know everyone does it.

Facebook is, also, a place I can make certain things of my life public. I love uploading photos. They photos do not necessary have to be of me, but of the people around me, or of random object that reflect a great memory. Just like I enjoy having updates about people, I feel like my friends would want the same from me. Most of the pictures I upload, I tag people on them so that their friends can see pictures of them. I only tag myself in pictures in which I believe I look good in. If someone tags me in a picture that I do not like, I simply untag myself.

I go on the People magazine website because I love to look up different trends rising in the fashion industry. The three famous females I love to follow are Kim Kardasian, Jennifer Aniston and Selena Gomez. All three have a unique style that I wish to have. I get ideas on what to wear in certain occasion or how to do my hair. The People website was very helpful when I was deciding what to wear to Prom, as well as how to do my hair and makeup.

YouTube consists of the same purpose as People magazine does. I use YouTube in order to be updated on new songs. I do not listen to the radio, so I use the Internet because I am online most of the time. Also, when I do homework, I go to YouTube to play music because it helps me concentrate. YouTube has all sort of music, so I sometimes listen to random songs. If I like them, I take the link and convert the video to mp3 and add it to my iTunes.

Recently, I have been using the Internet more than ever; mainly because I have to use websites, like Blackboard and Webwork to do homework. Half of my classes require blogging therefore I need to be online most of the time. I do not only use the Internet on my computer, but on my phone too. The other day I used it to find out where one of my classes were. It is really convenient. It makes me wonder how I was able to go on with my life with Internet technology.
