Prompt #2

You are completely correct. I have posted up on face book lyrics of songs that describe my mood without siting the artist's work. This is why the law should be transformed, or rather, fix. The law expects us to watch out for every move we make. But when being creative or when freely expressing ourselves, we don't want to have to be careful of what we use or type. There should be restrictions, since cases like the one you mentioned are preposterous.

  1. I agree to that they are completely ridiculous, however I can see the opposite argument. For example, how would laws be reformed so that they could allow for such specific situations? I mean, ultimately laws are written to try to best suit the needs of the majority, and I feel that copyright law is one of those laws where there is no single majority. The O'brien and Fitzgerald article that we read said that many of these cases are decided on a case by case basis, and I fear that that is really the only way to be specific enough in tackling copyright practices. What do you think? Do you think there is any way to judge and account for so many of these instances where clearly I am not trying to steal the lyrics? I am all for reforming copyright law, but at the same time I am beginning more and more to lean towards the fact that reforming it might simply be too complicated.
