Prompt #3

Tentative Thesis: Creative Commons provides an opportunity for people to use existing work for their own purposes, which eliminates some of the gray areas of the copyright law and expands the creativity of the public.

All original works are protected by copyright in which all rights are reserved. Creative Commons is an alternative to the copyright law. It allows the artist to have some rights reserved instead of all of them. This increases the amount of access and sharing the public has to these original works of art. In my paper I intend to:

1. Provide a brief background about Creative Commons

2. Establish that there are gray areas of the copyright law that need clarification

3. Describe how copyright limits creativity and freedom and provide examples

4. And finally put it all together to prove that Creative Commons addresses these problems and provides a way for people to build upon the works of others without worrying about breaking the law.

  1. Great - with your thesis you address a problem and propose a solution. Be sure to adequately establish that this IS a problem before moving on to your solution. Otherwise, this looks fantastic!
